Watchdogs – Are voters snoozing through the runoff election?

Actually, they’re not, say election officials in New Hanover County.Since early voting for the June 22 runoff primary began June 3, nearly 700 people have cast ballots, and there’s still another week of early voting. It ends at 1 p.m. on June 19.

Developer cancels meeting about 14-story hotel near new Wilmington convention center

Small plane crashes near Ashley High

A small plane crashed Sunday morning along Halyburton Memorial Parkway near Ashley School at Veterans Park.The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. One person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.There’s a small airstrip next to Veterans Park.

Pender considers mandatory utility taps

Man who founded zoo on Carolina Beach Road dies at 88

George Tregembo, collector of animals and assorted worldly curiosities that became the Tregembo Animal Park, died Thursday after an illness. He was 88.Tregembo opened the Carolina Beach Road zoo in 1953, originally calling it the Tote Em In Zoo. It quickly became a child favorite, and remains a landmark to this day.
