Yahweh Center’s finances reviewed after employees complain of nonpayment

Castle Hayne | The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services is reviewing the Yahweh Center’s finances after receiving complaints that its employees hadn’t been getting paid.

Eight injured in deck collapse at Holden Beach house

Holden Beach | An oceanfront home’s lower deck collapsed at 4:47 p.m. Thursday, injuring about eight people, said Sgt. Adam Milligan of the Holden Beach Police Department. Milligan said one victim was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and the other victims were taken to nearby hospitals.

See ‘The Frog Prince’ Saturday

Wilmington | Rags to Riches Theater will present a live staging of the fairy tale “The Frog Prince” at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Northeast Regional Library, 1241 Military Cutoff Road. Admission is free.The show is to help launch Summer Reading Clubs at all branches of the New Hanover County Public Library.

Jan. 13 tapped for official opening of convention center

The new Convention Center is set to open in January and several events have been scheduled for that month, the city announced Tuesday.The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m., and then tour the center, according to a statement from City Spokeswoman Malissa Talbert.
