Man flees from Wilmington police twice in one day

A 20-year-old man ran twice from police Tuesday, diving head-first through a second-story window during the first escape and breaking out of handcuffs at a hospital during the second.Christian Holshouser was detained at 9:26 p.m. after police searched the area around New Hanover Regional Medical Center for more than two hours.

Ogden Baptist Church forgives man charged with vandalizing it

Ogden Baptist Church wants Christopher Ryan Brown and his family to know they’re welcome anytime.Brown, an ex-con with a criminal record dating back to 1993, faces multiple charges in the May 28 break-in and vandalism at the church, which caused more than $250,000 in damage.

Dozens turn out in Oak Island to back golf course

When Mayor Betty Wallace asked who in the crowd of more than 100 people packing the Oak Island Rec Center and spilling into the hallway was attending the meeting to speak in favor of keeping the town’s golf course, approximately three-fourths of the people raised their hands.

Police searching area around hospital for suspect who fled

Wilmington | Officers, police dogs and a helicopter were searching the woods and streets around New Hanover Regional Medical Center shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.A dispatcher with New Hanover 911 said the search was for a patient who walked away after being taken to the hospital by Wilmington Police Department officers.

Further budget cuts will likely mean reduced offerings at UNCW, CFCC
