Officials use small explosives to frighten roosting cormorants

Droppings unleashed by migrating cormorants have long caked the drawbridge connecting Wrightsville Beach to the mainland as well as the property surrounding it, creating unsettling aromas and posing a health hazard to boaters, workers and even the birds themselves.
