UNCW trustees approve three chancellor finalists

Carolina Beach gets state grant for part of pier project

Gov. Beverly Perdue sent Carolina Beach officials a letter last week announcing $100,000 in financial assistance to pay off a parcel of property for the pier project, officially called the Ocean-to-Sound Access Park.

Superintendent who introduced kindergarten in N.C. dies at 88

Craig Phillips, the superintendent who helmed the introduction of kindergarten in North Carolina and led the state school system through desegregation, died peacefully Tuesday at a hospice in Wilmington. He was 88.
