A Bingo volunteer becomes its beneficiary

Every Thursday for nine years, vacationers and volunteers spent summer evenings at the Historical Assembly Building in Topsail Beach playing bingo. This year they did a little something different.“Chuck Honke needs a heart transplant,” bingo committee chair Barry Newsome said. “We donated the bingo proceeds of the first Thursday to help him.”

Pender County News & Notes – Fishing tournament; volunteer training; autumn run/walk

WATHA | Camp Kirkwood hosted its first annual Fishing Tournament on July 9. Sixteen youngsters and 17 adults cast their lines for the largest fish in the 8-acre lake.Jade Mills won the blue ribbon in the youth category with an impressive 48-ounce bass. Also in the youth category was red ribboned Preston Corbett, 28-ounce bass, and white ribboned Patrick Emery, 24-ounce bass.
