New Hanover County News & Notes – Top honors at competition; service award; scholarship

WILMINGTON | Clayton Kellenberger, a senior at Hoggard, and Hunter Pierce, a junior at New Hanover, put their automotive technology skills to the ultimate test as they participated in the AAA/Ford Student Auto Skills competition April 29 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. The New Hanover County school student team took home second place in the state finals of the hands-on competition.

Man found guilty in string of Wilmington bank robberies

A federal jury returned a guilty verdict Wednesday for a man accused of robbing three Wilmington banks in 2009, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

McIntyre tops Pantano in second-quarter fundraising

The money race is on for 2012.U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre’s campaign said Thursday that he raised more than $286,000 in the second quarter of 2011, more than quadrupling his fundraising from the same period in 2009. McIntyre’s campaign announced that it now has more than $376,000 on hand to try to fend off any challengers next year.Ilario Pantano, a Wilmington resident who will again seek the Republican nomination in the 7th Congressional District, said Thursday his campaign brought in about $50,000 during the past three months, bringing his total this election cycle to about $120,000.
