Car search yields 700 bags of heroin, 1 pound of marijuana

The arrest of two men from the northeast in connection with the seizure of 700 bags of heroin early Friday has sparked an investigation into a pipeline that detectives believe starts in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area and funnels drugs into New Hanover County, officials said.

Why were the trash cans removed from the beach at Fort Fisher?

The trash cans were removed in 2007 from the four-wheel-drive section of the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area to lessen the threat of predators to rare loggerhead sea turtles and nesting shore birds, N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation spokesman Charlie Peek said.There are still trash receptacles in the pedestrian beach area.

Man faces additional charges after vandalism at Soles’ home

Already facing multiple charges related to vandalism at former state Sen. R.C. Soles’ Tabor City home, Allen Strickland is at it again. Tabor City police responded to Soles’ house on Sunday after the former senator called an officer’s department issued cell phone. Strickland, according to police, had pushed open the gate entrance, broken a window of the home and kicked out a tail light in Soles’ 2005 BMW.
