FIRST ON 3: Schools on lockdown during search for car chase suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Pine Valley Elementary School and Holly Tree Elementary School are on lockdown as law enforcement officers search for a suspect involved in a car chase earlier this afternoon.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says it all started with a breaking and entering on Golden Road south of Monkey Junction. When deputies got there they saw a car with two men that the fit the description of the suspects. Once the deputy had the tag number of the car, he stopped pursuing and put out an alert on the car.

Brewer says Highway Patrol saw the car and tried to pull it over near the fire station in the Pine Valley area off South College Road. That’s when he says the two men jumped out and ran.

Officers caught on of the men from the car, but the other is still on the loose.

ONLY ON 3: Leland councilman’s domestic violence charge dropped

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Leland Town Councilman’s domestic violence case is history.

Leland Police charged Herbert Barnes with assault on a female after an incident at his home in March. This morning the case was dismissed.

Barnes’s attorney says the councilman completed deferred prosecution. The charge was dropped after barnes completed community service and anger management classes.

FIRST ON 3: Michigan says incentives leaded ‘Iron Man 3’ to NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We told you yesterday about plans to bring filming of a major motion picture to the Cape Fear. Today, we’re learning that producers of “Iron Man 3” may have chosen Wilmington over other locations because of state film incentives.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan originally offered Marvel $13 million in incentives, but upped that to $20 million to match North Carolina. The Michigan Film Office told the newspaper that the film chose North Carolina instead because the money was guaranteed.

Marvel did not respond to requests for comment.

Lockdown lifted at schools as search for car chase suspect continues

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Pine Valley Elementary School and Holly Tree Elementary School were under lockdown this afternoon as law enforcement officers searched for a suspect involved in a car chase earlier this afternoon. The lockdowns were lifted in time for normal dismissal for students.
