City leaders hear from public on improvement project at Inland Greens Golf Course

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The city of Wilmington heard from the public Monday night as the city moves forward with plans to revamp Inland Greens golf course. The purpose of the meeting was to hear from members of the public on which park amenities they want.

The city bought the property back in march for half a million dollars. Another $800,000 will be spent on drainage improvements and $600,000 will cover park and golf improvements. City leaders say the project offers many benefits to the community.

“This will be a new park added to the city’s park system. as well we will be introducing new golf facilities to the community. This will allow us to expand the programming that we have at our municipal golf course by offering programs to youth and beginner golfers. We intend to heavily market the facility and bring in kids to learn the game of golf,” Superintendent of Recreation and Services for City of Wilmington, Amy Beatty said.

City leaders say they have consistently received feedback from folks wanting walking and biking trails, which they plan to include in the project.

The design phase of the project should begin by spring of 2012 with the project being completed by winter of 2012 or early in 2013.
