Fall’s arrival leaves hole, as Britt’s Donuts closes till spring

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Fall officially arrived just after 5 a.m. And a sure sign summer’s over is happening down at Carolina Beach.

It’s last call this weekend at Britt’s Donut Shop. The landmark closes up the last weekend in september each year as business at the boardwalk slows.

If you don’t make it down to Pleasure Island to get some deep fried and glazed goodness this weekend, or even if you do, you won’t get another taste until spring.

‘One Tree Hill’ cast, fans mark milestone

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As “One Tree Hill” inches closer to its end, the cast and fans celebrated a milestone today.

It was eight years ago tonight that the show debuted on The CW. Since then 174 episodes have aired of the teen drama turned young adult drama set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, NC.

On Twitter today, cast members and fans tagged tweets #OTHDay to mark the show’s eighth birthday.

“One Tree Hill” returns for its ninth and final season in January.

Lawmakers receptive to proposed beach nourishment policy change

FEMA sets up Wilmington office to help with Irene questions

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — FEMA has set up a Disaster Recovery Center to aid New Hanover County residents who still have questions and concerns about federal assistance in the wake of Hurricane Irene.

The center is for anyone who would like questions answered face to face, or for folks without access to a telephone.

The offices at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 127-38 in Wilmington will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. through Tuesday. The center is closed on Sunday.

Strickland pleads guilty to Soles-related charges

Allen Strickland pleaded guilty Friday to multiple charges of vandalism and trespassing stemming from incidents at former state Sen. R.C. Soles’ home and law office.
