Sunday, October 9th, 2011

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Folks lined Water Street in downtown Wilmington this weekend for the annual Riverfest. The event, which started in 1979, drew thousands of people to the banks of the Cape Fear River beginning Friday and ending Sunday.

More than 200 craft and food vendors came out to sell tasty treats and one of a kind memorabilia. The live music and entertainment throughout the weekend made for a very fun and festive event for visitors.

“We’ve had a ball this weekend,” said Greg Thompson, who lives in the Port City. “Actually, my band 40 East got to play down here yesterday. We had a really good time, great weather. We’ve been down today just enjoying the food and festivities.”

Riverfest brings in millions of dollars in business to the local economy. Some proceeds from the festival benefit the Cape Fear Community College Marine Sciences Division.
