‘Booze It & Lose It’ Halloween campaign kicks off

Friday, October 28th, 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Transportation Secretary Gene Conti today announced that state and local law enforcement officers will be out in force over the Halloween weekend as part of the “Booze It & Lose It” Halloween campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted Friday through Monday across North Carolina in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads.

“Law enforcement officers across the state will make removing impaired drivers from our roads a top priority,” Conti said. “Take responsibility, always plan ahead and designate a sober driver before celebrating.”

In 2010, there were more than 139 alcohol-related crashes in North Carolina during the Halloween campaign, which ran from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31, resulting in four fatalities and 123 injuries.

Officers charged more than 700 North Carolina motorists with driving while impaired during the 2010 “Booze It & Lose It” Halloween campaign. More than 2,300 stepped-up patrols and checkpoints were conducted.
