WHQR hosts live candidate forum tonight

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — WHQR 91.3fm, along with the StarNews and WWAY will host live candidate forums tonight from 7-9 PM.

The first hour of the show will be dedicated to the candidates running for Wilmington City Council.

The second hour will focus on Wilmington’s two mayoral candidates.

WHQR will moderate the event and a panel of local media representatives will ask questions.

Panelists include WHQR’s Sara Wood, StarNews’ Si Cantwell and WWAY’s Ramon Herrera.

Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Doors to the WHQR Gallery (at 254 N. Front Street) open at 6:30 P.M.
Broadcasting begins promptly at 7:00 P.M. The public is encouraged to attend. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kids of all ages learn wonders of science at Wilmington museum

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s called SciFest, and this is the second year the Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington has held the event. Folks visited a variety of hands-on activity stations, interacted with local scientists and watched some exciting demonstrations.

“You think about in school, parents don’t often times get to see what their kids are doing or see what they learn,” said Jameson McDermott, a museum educator. “Here they get to learn with their kids, explore things together and see what their kids know. So, it’s exciting for families.”

Families got to do activities like creating chemical reactions, build and launch paper rockets and participate in a paper plane derby.
