Hearing scheduled in John Edwards sex tape case

Monday, October 31st, 2011

PITTSBORO, NC (AP) — An Orange County judge has scheduled a hearing to review the civil case involving former Sen. John Edwards and a sex tape purportedly involving him.

Judge Michael Morgan has scheduled the status review for Monday afternoon in Pittsboro. The meeting comes a week before a scheduled hearing on charges by Edwards’ former mistress that a former campaign staffer should be held in contempt of court.

Rielle Hunter is suing former Edwards staffer Andrew Young for the return of personal property, including the purported sex tape. Hunter says Young, his wife and their lawyers violated a judge’s order by sharing information with federal prosecutors pursuing criminal charges against Edwards.

The Youngs say they were complying with a federal judge’s orders.

Fans get closure after ‘An Evening with One Tree Hill’

Monday, October 31st, 2011

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After nine seasons and nearly 200 episodes, the curtain is closing on “One Tree Hill.” Sunday night, fans from all over the country got to say goodbye during “An Evening with One Tree Hill.”

“Of course the show is what brought us down here and then we just fell in love with the whole city, the whole town,” said Britany Austin, who traveled from Virginia.

Lucky fans of the TV drama got to spend an evening with the cast before they wrap up their ninth and final season. They came from all over, but some from the Port City say they became fast fans after seeing the stars around town.

“One Tree Hill” started filming in Wilmington in 2003, and though many critics had doubts of the show’s longevity, the cast and crew have been around for nearly a decade. Fans have found themselves flocking to the Port City.

“I guess it’s just the home feel that ‘One Tree Hill’ gives to the characters,” said Austin. “You just feel home when you’re here, so I really feel like it has brought that out about Wilmington.”

Though the night was about getting to see the characters they came to know and love face to face, for many it was about saying goodbye.

“I’m just kind of hoping for closure,” said Amanda Feilka, a big fan of the show. “You know, it’s just been such a big part of our lives for so long. When Harry Potter ended it was like my childhood ended and hopefully we’ll get that same kind of closure from this.”

“I know that everybody has been anticipating if this will be the last season for the past eight years, so to know that it is going to come to an end is very sad,” said Austin.
