The Azalea Festival committee unveils new art for 2012 festival.

WILMINGTON NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival committee unveiled the 2012 festival art piece tonight and it was very well received. The artist Terry Sellers Harrison said she wanted to capture a sense of play and a more contemporary idea for now and the future.

In addition to the belles, people were talking bucks, specifically the economic impact of the festival. Dr Stephen Meinhold has the big dollars. “We estimate the 2011 North Carolina Azalea Festival economic impact to be approximately 50 million dollars. That’s made up of three things, the expenditures by locals and visitors when they attend festival events , the direct festival expenditures and the monetary value of volunteer hours dedicated to the festival.”

Planning is well under way for the 2012 North Carolina Azalea festival, dates are April 11 through 15 Th.

Now all we have to do is get through winter.

Pender county Sheriff’s office asks for help identifying fraud suspect

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s office is still looking for your help to identify a suspect in a fraud investigation.

Today, the sheriff’s office released a new photo of what they believe to be the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect in the photos is using stolen credit cards to purchase items.
