Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

LEXINGTON, NC (AP) — The Save-A-Lot company will open a new food distribution center in Lexington that will create at least 35 new jobs and supply the company’s stores within a 150-mile radius.

The company plans to open the 330,000-square-foot facility Wednesday morning in a ceremony that will include Davidson County commissioners and Lexington Mayor John Walser.

The company says it will also donate $10,000 to local charities.

The facility uses cutting-edge energy-saving technology, including lights that shut off unless a person is present and a heating and cooling system with so-called “smart” thermostats.

The national grocery chain has nearly 30 stores in North Carolina, with plans to open three more by next March.
