Charlotte police look for hit and run driver

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Charlotte police are looking for the person driving a pickup truck that struck and killed a woman crossing a street.

Thirty-year-old Valerie Michelle Miranda of Charlotte died at the scene about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police think Miranda was hit by a dark-colored pickup truck with dual rear wheels.

The victim’s father, Mike Miranda, says he just wants to know what happened.

Investigators say the woman had just finished a shift at a fast-food restaurant when she was hit.

Cops: Woman kills 1, injures 5, then kills self

GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — Guilford County deputies plan to release more information about a woman who killed one person and wounded five others near Greensboro before turning the gun on herself.

Sheriff BJ Barnes said the shootings Sunday morning near Pleasant Garden appear to be a domestic incident.

Barnes says the shootings happened in three different places and four of the victims are younger than 18.

The sheriff said that as of Sunday afternoon, three of the injured were on life support.

Barnes says he expects to release more information about the shootings at a news conference Monday morning.

Authorities ID body found in Chapel Hill creek

CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — Authorities have identified the body of a man found in a Chapel Hill creek, and say the investigating into the man’s death continues.

Investigators said 24-year-old Shane Pease of Fort Bragg was found in Bolin Creek around 9 a.m. Saturday.

An autopsy has been ordered to try and determine a cause of death.

Authorities say Pease was not a student at the University of North Carolina.
