Robert Downey Jr praises ‘Iron Man 3’ script

Friday, December 9th, 2011

LONDON (CONTACTMUSIC.COM) — Robert Downey Jr. thinks the ‘Iron Man 3’ script is the “best” he has read.

The 46-year-old actor is set to reprise the role of businessman Tony Stark/Iron Man for the fourth time – following on from the character’s appearance in ensemble comic book movie ‘The Avengers’ – in the highly anticipated film, and he admits he is excited to get working on the Shane Black-directed feature.

Speaking at the UK premiere of new movie ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ at the Empire Leicester Square, Robert told BANG Showbiz: “‘Iron Man 3’? It’s the best script I’ve read in five years. It’s going to be a phenomenal theatre-going experience.”

Filming on the movie is set to begin early next year here in Wilmington ahead of a summer 2013 release.

Efird receives prestigious honor as SBI investigation continues

Friday, December 9th, 2011

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — This morning Carolina Beach Town Councilwoman and Mayor Pro-Tem Pat Efird received a very special honor. In fact, it’s the highest honor the governor can bestow on a citizen. But the Order of the Long Leaf Pine comes as Efird is also under state investigation.

It was a day of celebration for Efird, but it comes under a cloud of suspicion. The SBI started investigating Efird, fellow council member Dan Wilcox and Mayor Joel Macon before it was announced she would receive the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. With Efird given such a prestigious award, many may be wondering with the lingering SBI investigation, just how deserving is she?

“I’ve done my job,” Efird said. “I’ve worked hard and strong and many, many long hours.”

The investigation started after the Attorney General and District Attorney received an anonymous letter back in February. It claimed Efird voted for the town to purchase a piece of property at “a grossly inflated” price of $200,000.

Efird says her record speaks for itself.

“I’ve done my service, and when this is all over and the truth comes out and they finish the investigation, I have done nothing wrong,” she said.

But the investigation is not over leaving a cloud of doubt about whether such an honor as the Order of the Long Leaf Pine should be bestowed on someone who could be in serious legal trouble. At least one Carolina Beach resident thinks it’s OK.

“Plain and simple, I think it’s all political, and sometimes you just need to be able to rise above politics,” Sam McDonald said.

Efird joins a list of recipients of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine that includes the likes of Michael Jordan, Maya Angelou and Billy Graham.

We called the governor’s office to see what it had to say about Efird receiving the honor while under investigation. We are waiting for a call back.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — Larry Fedora says he’s excited to help North Carolina’s football program move forward.

Fedora was introduced as the Tar Heels’ coach Friday, a few hours after the terms of his seven-year contract were approved by the school’s board of trustees.

With men’s basketball coach Roy Williams among the hundreds attending his introductory news conference, Fedora proclaimed it “the first day of a new era of UNC football” and told fans they’d “better buckle your seat belts and you better hold on, because it’s going to be a wild ride.”

The former Southern Mississippi coach received a deal worth more than $1.7 million annually. It includes several bonuses, including for winning a division or conference championship, reaching a BCS game and high graduation rates.
