Air Jordan release causes disturbances at Charlotte malls

CHARLOTTE, NC (WSOC) — Police were called to at least three Charlotte area malls Friday morning because of large crowds waiting for the new Air Jordan Retro Concord shoes to go on sale.

An Eyewitness News crew at Northlake Mall saw glass smashed from a door.

At 7:20 a.m. police ordered people inside Northlake Mall to leave.

We saw police clearing people from Carolina Place Mall in Pineville earlier Friday morning.

Police told us they were called to several disturbances at Southpark Mall around 5 a.m.

Christmas tree recycling starts Monday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Recycling used Christmas trees will begin the day after the holiday for New Hanover County residents. The New Hanover County Environmental Management Department asks residents living outside city limits to take their trees to one of three locations this year.

Residents can begin dropping off their used Christmas trees starting Monday at:

· Ogden Park (near baseball fields)
· Myrtle Grove Middle School (901 Piner Rd)
· New Hanover County Landfill (5210 US Highway 421 North)

This program will last through the month of January with the last pick up being February 1, 2012. Please remove all decorations and lights prior to drop off and keep areas neat and orderly by stacking trees in a single row.
