Reward offered for CB store robber

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Beach Police Department is offering a reward for information leading the arrest of a man who robbed a store earlier this month.

Police say on Dec. 1 a white male wearing a mask and carrying a semi automatic handgun robbed the Scotchman on Canal Drive.

Truck goes off embankment at Surf City Swingbridge

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — A scary scene in Surf City this morning after a tractor trailer went off an embankment leading to the swingbridge.

Lt. Jeff Johnson of the Surf City Police Department says it happened around 10:45 a.m. He said there was a driver and a passenger in the truck when it went off the embankment, leaving it dangling over the side.

Johnson said it took about 15 minutes to get the two people out, and another hour to get the truck and trailer back on the road. He said neither person was hurt; just shaken up.

Johnson said the driver was cited with a traffic violation. Police are looking into the cause, including, Johnson said, the possibility the driver was texting.
