Three people charged in Charlotte shooting death

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Three people have been arrested in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Charlotte man.

Charlotte police say they arrested a 17-year-old male Wednesday and charged him with murder.

Twenty-year-old Craig Alan Leverette Jr. was shot and killed near his home on Dec. 8. Leverette was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Police say the teen charged with murder had taken off an electronic monitoring device from a previous arrest. He’s also charged with possession of a handgun by a minor and carrying a concealed gun.

Thirty-eight-year-old Reginald Eugene Martin and 18-year-old Carolyn Nicole Lilly are charged as accessories. Police have not described their crime.

It wasn’t clear if they have lawyers.

Body found in burning car in Union County

UNIONVILLE, NC (AP) — Union County authorities are investigating a body found in a burning car.

It wasn’t clear if the person died in the fire in the car at a house in Unionville about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office.

The victim’s name has not been determined.

Neighbors said they heard explosions coming from the home.

Fire officials think the fire may have stared in the car engine.

FIRST ON 3: Police using SABLE Helicopter to track down suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A vehicle break-in this morning in the parking lot of the Mill Creek Apartments off Kerr Avenue in Wilmington prompted Wilmington Police to call on SABLE to find their suspect.

The break-in happened around 2 a.m. Police say the suspect is a black male wearing all black. Police say he ran into the woods and they needed the light from the helicopter to search for him. Police don’t know the name of the suspect and were not able to locate him.
