McIntyre can use Congressional campaign money on governor race

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If Rep. Mike McIntyre decides to run for governor, he will not have to start fundraising from scratch.

As of last week, the Congressman’s campaign had $687,000 cash on hand.

We checked with the Federal Elections Commission to see whether he can use that money raised for his federal campaign on a state race. The FEC told us he could, but each state has its own set of stipulations concerning how the money is used.

We’ve left several messages with the state Board of Elections, but they have not returned our calls.

Hagan not running for governor

WASHINGTON, DC (WWAY) — Mark another name of the list of Democrats who may run for governor in North Carolina.

Sen. Kay Hagan is not running for the office left open when Gov. Bev Perdue decided last week not to seek re-election. Hagan’s press office says the Hagan is “definitely not running for governor.”

The Democrat is in the middle of her first term in the Senate after beating out incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole in 2008.

House move to slow traffic at Holden Beach Tuesday

HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Traffic at Holden Beach could be tied up tomorrow morning for an unusual reason: an beach house is moving inland.

The town says the owners of the 1,200 square foot house at 185 High Point Street are replacing it with a larger home. Instead of tearing it down, they’re moving it off the island.

The move is scheduled to start around 8:45 a.m. The town say it should take the better part of an hour to move it down the island and over the bridge and causeway.
