NC Transportation Museum offers look behind scenes

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

SPENCER, NC (AP) — Visitors to the N.C. Transportation Museum can take a peek behind the scenes for the first time in 25 years.

The Division of Cultural Resources says those who visit the museum and its “Behind the Scenes” tour can stroll through the large Back Shop, view the Roundhouse Restoration bays and enjoy a tour through the private rail car of James Duke.

The tour also includes an up-close look at the DC-3 Potomac Pacemaker, undergoing cosmetic restoration in the Back Shop. The World War II-era airplane was used for passenger travel by Piedmont Airlines and still bears the company’s logo. The Potomac Pacemaker is part of the history of the Winston-Salem based airline.

STORMTRACK 3: Big storm system this weekend, measurable rain likely

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — A major storm system will provide much-needed rainfall this weekend, with around two inches possible in southeastern NC. Showers will develop late Saturday evening and continue throughout Saturday night and all day Sunday. An isolated thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, but this is not forecast to be a severe weather event… more of a soaking rain event, which we certainly need.

Colder air arrives as the rain ends late Sunday night, possibly leading to a few snowflakes, mostly in our northern counties. Because of all the rain, if the snow does fall, it will likely not stick at all.

Don’t forget to watch our Video Update, and stay with us online on Facebook and on Twitter for constant updates on this system.
