WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Wilmington have always looked up to their principal. To see her today, they literally had to look up… to the roof.
To encourage students to read more principal Joyce Price challenged them to read 20,000 pages in one week. They surpassed that goal by reading more than 72,000 pages.
So Price made good on her promise to spend a day on the school’s roof in her pajamas.
“It’s a funny thing that hasn’t happened here at St. Mary’s before. They’ve never had a principal on the roof that I know of in the past, and I’ve never been up there,” Price said. “I thought of all the different kinds of things we could do as a principal to reward them. This was one that was doable here. I’ve got a very steep ladder to climb this morning, which does worry me a bit.”
Price had a laptop and telephone set up on the roof, so she could do all her work up there.
