WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington leaders are doing their homework when it comes to building a ballpark downtown.
Today, City Council members and other local leaders toured the home of the Durham Bulls. The class AAA ballpark holds about 10,000 fans and brings in about 7,000 on an average night. Fifty percent of ticket purchases come from residents of neighboring counties.
The proposed Wilmington team would be a class A club.
Debate continues on how to pay for a ballpark here. Today, city leaders learned the Durham Bulls Athletic Park is city-owned, bought by taxpayer dollars.
Durham leaders say the ballpark has revitalized their downtown.
Durham officials say since the park was built in 1994, downtown is booming with business.
