CFPUA fined for Barnards Creek sewage spill

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Division of Water Quality has fined the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority for a sewage spill back in January.

On January 24, more than one million gallons of sewage spilled from an 18-inch waste water force main along River Road and Barnards Creek and into the New Hanover County Tidal Creek.

The CFPUA says the $8,350.55 fine includes $7,840 as a civil penalty and a $510.55 an enforcement fee.

“We have received correspondence regarding the Barnards Creek civil penalty assessment and are in the process of reviewing it,” CFPUA CEO Matt Jordan said in a statement. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with the State and hold paramount our responsibility as environmental stewards.”

Man arrested for impersonating EMS worker

BLADEN CO., NC (WWAY) — The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office says Daniel Trey Horne, 24, of 33 Rosemont Lane Clarkton was arrested and charged with impersonating an EMS employee on March 23rd.

EMS employees were dispatched to a call March 17th on Mitchell Ford Road Clarkton to find Horne at the residence. Horne told telecommunicators when he was talking to them on 911 that he was a paramedic and told the EMS employees on the scene that he was a paramedic in Sampson County.

Horne was dressed like an EMS worker and spoke like an EMS worker. Horne also has been charged with Impersonating an EMS Employee in Sampson County and that charge is still pending in court.

Horne stated that he did represent himself as an EMS worker because he always wanted to be involved in that profession.

Horne was released on a $1000 unsecured bond.

The Wrightsville Beach drawbridge is stuck

The Wrightsville Beach drawbridge is stuck in the opened position blocking traffic. Maintenance crews are there now but it is not known when they will have it fixed.

Bladenboro police arrest suspect in March shooting

BLADENBORO, NC (WWAY) — Bladenboro police arrested Elijah Caval Davis, 20, of Lumberton and charged him with Attempted First Degree Murder. He is being held in the Bladen county jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

Police say Marcus Theodore Hill, 23, is wanted for Attempted First Degree Murder. Brittany Marie Garrell, 21, Bladenboro is wanted for Accessory After the Fact.

On March 28th, deputies were dispatched to Bryant Swamp Church in the Bladenboro area in reference to a subject shot.

Police arrived to find Reuben Lee Harrelson, 36, had been shot in the right leg after an argument with neighbors. Harrelson was transported by EMS to Southeastern regional Medical Center in Lumberton for treatment.
