Car drives into Wilmington business

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Witnesses say a woman was taken to the hospital after she drove her car into a Wilmington business. It happened this morning at Interim Healthcare at 2007 Dawson Street.

Witnesses say no one was inside when it happened. The crash took out the front windows to the business.

Police are investigating. No word on the driver’s condition or what caused her to run into the building.

Nature Science Center to be open for 24 hours

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will celebrate the grand opening of its new wing with a 24-hour opening of the Nature Research Center in Raleigh.

The event begins at 4 p.m. Friday with music from the Shaw University Jazz Band. At 4:30 p.m., dancers from the African-American Dance Ensemble will be among those participating in a procession from the Governor’s Mansion.

The opening ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the 80,000-square-foot center. Actor Ira David Wood III and Chuck Davis, founder of the African-American Dance Ensemble, will officiate. After the opening ceremony, the center will be open for tours around the clock until 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event ends at 5 p.m. Saturday with an invitation to citizens to personally engage with science.

Police searching for break-in suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for the suspect who broke into a Wilmington church overnight.

The Wilmington Police Department got the call just before 1 a.m. that someone broke into St. Andrews AME Zion Church through a window and stole electronics.

Inside the church they found blood, and then used K-9’s and helicopters to search for the suspect. They also found bags of heroin near the church, but they aren’t sure if they are related to the break-in.
