Pine Valley Fire Burns 50 Acres

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department and NC Forestry Service are fighting a woods fire off of George Anderson and 17th St.
Units on scene advise there are approximately three to four acres involved, and are working diligently to bring it under control.
It is unknown if any structures are threatened at this time.
A viewer emailed us to report he smelled smoke in the area around 2:30 this afternoon, smoke by 4:30 p.m. and flames at 5:30 p.m.
The fire is also near the Cameron Art Museum, which we are told has been asked to evacuate.
Dispatchers say 17th Street has also been closed between Independence and George Anderson because of smoke.

The search resumed Monday for a man who reportedly jumped into the Cape Fear River.
The symposium, which runs through Wednesday, is hosted by the Sister Cities Association and the Sister City Commission.
