FIRST ON 3: Pender Co. commissioner’s DWI case dropped

Monday, April 16th, 2012

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Prosecutors in Charlotte have dropped a DWI charge against a Pender County Commissioner. A spokesman for Mecklenburg County Courts says the District Attorney voluntarily dismissed the charge against David Williams Friday. There’s no word on why the charge was dropped.

As WWAY was first to report last year, Matthews Police pulled Williams over in December 2010 after they spotted “a suspicious vehicle stopped in the middle of” US 74. A police report said Williams’s blood alcohol level was 0.15. In February, though, a judge granted a motion to suppress the results of a breathalyzer.

According to court records, Williams was convicted of DWI in 1990 and again in 1994.

Williams has not yet returned a call for comment.

Woman charged with murder after allegedly running down another with car

Monday, April 16th, 2012

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — A woman is dead after being run over by a car early yesterday morning in Bladen County.

Elizabethtown Police Chief Robert Kinlaw said Vanessa Jones, 50, of Bladenboro was believed to be visiting family at 310 Martin Street in Elizabethtown. Kinlaw said an argument got out of hand early yesterday morning, and Brittany Williams, 25, allegedly ran over jones.

“After investigating, we learned that there had been some dispute between the driver of the vehicle and the family members of the victim,” Chief Kinlaw said. “It appears that she intentionally ran over the victim. She was charged with second degree murder.”

Williams is in the Bladen County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond. The case is still under investigation.

Jones’s body has been sent to Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
