Vietnam vet to get back dog tag lost during war

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Vietnam vet will soon hold the dog tag he lost while serving in Vietnam.

A group of bikers is making sure the tag gets back to Bill Ritenour. He lost it while serving in Vietnam in the 1960s.

The POW-MIA Awareness Committee of New Jersey is sending it to him with the Cape Fear Chapter of the NamKnights. They are key to getting the tag back to the former Marine.

“I’m about ready to cry now,” NamKnights President Bob Pavlik said. “It’s a wonderful thing beautiful. It’s just overwhelming right now.”

Pavlik will wear the dog tag until making it to Greenville to return it to Ritenour.

A volunteer with Operation Smile actually found the dog tag during a medical mission in 1993.
