WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Beryl is making her exit offshore. Fortunately all we got was some good soaking rain and gusty winds. There were some reports of downed trees and power lines, which is likely because the ground was so wet and there were wind gusts around 40 mph. The storm dropped anywhere from 2-4" of rain across the area. While the system was still classified as a tropical depression at the 11 am advisory, it will likely become a non-tropical system this afternoon.

Here’s a look at some of the impressive wind gusts and rain totals from Beryl’s stay here in southeastern North Carolina:

Wind Gusts: Bald Head Island – 47 mph; Wilmington – 45 mph; Burgaw – 34 mph. Others saw gusts around 25 mph.

Rain Totals: Wilmington – 4"; Whiteville – 3.7". Others saw rain totals between 2-3".

Here’s a look at your StormTrack 3 Forecast:

  • Tonight: Clearing skies with lows in the mid 60’s.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny and hot with highs around 90.

10th rabies case in New Hanover Co.; Free vaccines this weekend

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There’s been a tenth case of rabies for the year in New Hanover County.

Animal Control Services says the victim was working in the yard and did not see the rabid fox Sunday when it ran out and bit her wrist. She was able to shake the animal off. A neighbor then killed the fox.

It was taken to the state lab and tested positive for rabies.

That serves as a good reminder to make sure your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccines. Animal Control Services is offering free rabies shots this weekend. One year and three year shots will be available. The clinic is Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Veterans Park blue soccer field in Wilmington.
