UPDATE: Crews end search in reported drowning

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Crews have stopped their search in Wrightsville Beach because police cannot confirm the reports of a man drowning, and there have been no reports of anyone missing.

According to New Hanover County dispatch, a woman called 911 around 8:45 Saturday night to report that she saw a man who was swimming disappear in the waves near Access 4. Wrightsville Beach Police and Fire Departments, along with SABLE helicopter and the Coast Guard worked together to search for the potentially missing person.

Crews suspended the search Saturday night around midnight due to lack of light, cloudy skies and rain showers.

Wrightsville Beach Police decided to call off the search Sunday morning.

UPDATE: 9-year-old dead after drive-by shooting; suspect in custody

WALLACE, NC (WWAY) — A nine-year-old boy is dead after a drive-by shooting on Saturday afternoon. Meshan Kentay MacMillian is now in the custody of the Wallace Police Department. The Wallace resident was arrested Sunday afternoon with first degree murder of nine-year-old Leon Halley.

Police were called to the 400 block of Satchell Street in Wallace just before 4 p.m. on Saturday to respond to the shooting death of the nine-year-old boy who died on the scene.
