Possible drowning at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH,NC (WWAY) — WWAY has a reporter on the scene at a possible drowning at Wrightsville Beach near public access #4. The 911 call came in at 8:43 p.m. The Wrightsville Beach Police, WB Fire Department, the Coast Guard and SABLE started an extensive search as soon as the call came in. As of 10:50 p.m. on Saturday the search is starting to wrap up due to the cloudy conditions. An extensive search is expected to resume on Sunday morning.

9 year-old boy killed in drive-by shooting in Wallace

WALLACE, NC (WWAY) – Police in Wallace were called to the 400 block of Satchell Street just before 4 p.m. on Saturday to respond to the shooting death of a 9 year-old boy who died on the scene. Authorities are hunting for suspects. The boy is apparently not from the Wallace area. One bystander said the boy lives in New York.

The crime scene is currently active. A North Carolina Highway Patrol helicopter is assisting with the search.
A description of the suspect has not been released.

DEVELOPING: Crews investigate possible drowning at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Crews are searching for a man who may have drowned at Wrightsville Beach.

According to New Hanover County dispatch, a woman called 911 around 8:45 Saturday night to report that she saw a man who was swimming disappear in the waves. Wrightsville Beach Police and Fire Departments, along with SABLE helicopter and the Coast Guard are working together to search for the potentially missing person.

Crews plan to suspend the search soon due to lack of light, cloudy skies and rain showers.

An extensive search is expected to resume on Sunday morning.
