STORMTRACK 3: Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 9pm. Storms expected to form.

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Severe thunderstorms are likely to form across our area this afternoon and evening, and the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 9pm. This means that severe storms capable of damaging winds, and especially hail are expected to form through the evening.

This will be a similar event to what we saw yesterday. The same stationary boundary is in place, with enough heat and humidity around to add fuel to the fire for these storms.

Anytime a storm forms, it will be capable of torrential rainfall that can cause flash flooding. Also, impressive hail could form and rain down on an area for a time.

Please be vigilant this afternoon and evening, as sometimes these storms can form in a moments notice.

Of course, we’ll have all the warnings for you right here on WWAYTV3.com, on-air on WWAY, and on Facebook and Twitter.
