Christian legal group drops UNC Greensboro suit

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — A Christian legal group has dropped a lawsuit against the University of North Carolina Greensboro after the university agreed to recognize a pro-abstinence, anti-abortion Christian group.

The Alliance Defense Fund said Tuesday the suit had served its purpose by forcing the school to give the group called “Make Up Your Own Mind” access to university facilities and funding like it does for other groups.

The university said the dispute happened after school officials misinterpreted the university’s non-discrimination policy.

The defense fund thanked UNC-Greensboro for doing the right thing after the lawsuit was filed.

AUGUSTA, ME (AP) — A US Airways jetliner flying from Paris to Charlotte has been diverted to Maine because of what an airline spokesman describes as a “security issue.”

A person briefed on the incident said a passenger announced she had a surgically implanted device. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because it involved sensitive law enforcement information.

US Airways spokesman Andrew Christie says the Boeing 767 with 179 passengers and nine crew members was diverted around noon Tuesday to Bangor International Airport. He says there was a “security issue” on Flight 787.

The Transportation Security Administration says the flight was diverted “out of an abundance of caution.”
