Man dead after crash on MLK Parkway; road back open

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 27-year-old man is dead after a late night car crash on MLK Parkway Sunday.

The man was traveling eastbound on MLK when his 1997 GMC Jimmy rolled and flipped multiple times. He was ejected from the vehicle. He died on scene because of his injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

Witnesses tell WWAY multiple people stopped immediately to help, and two women administered CPR until first responders arrived on scene.

Wilmington Police closed the eastbound lanes of MLK from N. College Road to N. Kerr Avenue for several hours Sunday night as crews worked to investigate and clean up the accident.

The victim’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

River Road in Brunswick County closed after one killed in crash

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Law enforcement says one person is dead after a car accident in Brunswick County this morning. It happened on River Road (NC 133) near Melanie Way and Brunswick Cove south of Leland. River Road is closed, according to dispatch, as investigators and emergency crews work at the scene.

We have a crew on the way to the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.

Man smashes into gas station during seizure

Monday, June 18th, 2012

WILMINGTON (WWAY) – The Kangaroo gas station on S. 17th Street is closed this morning after a vehicle crashed into the building this weekend.

It happened on Saturday night around 8 p.m. According to New Hanover County dispatch, the man was having a seizure when he smashed into the front of the store.

The store manager says they are working to assess the damage this morning, and plan to be open again later this afternoon.
