Peterson awaits APR report during team camp

Monday, June 18th, 2012

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) — Team basketball camp is one of the long standing traditions of the campus of UNC Wilmington. For the third year in a row the camp falls under the umbrella of UNCW head coach Buzz Peterson. 65 high school baskeball teams are competing this week. It’s an all day affair with action from 8am until 11pm. “UNCW is a very popular spot for basketball teams to come for team camp,” Peterson said. “We have teams from all over the place this year, but that’s not unusual. This gives us a chance as a coaching staff to watch a lot of young men on our campus. In turn, they also get a chance to see our campus and play on a college court.”

Buzz Peterson also addressed UNCW’s APR score.(Academic Progress Report). The NCAA may rule UNCW to be be ineligible for post-season play in the 2012-13 season if the team doesn’t receive a perfect APR score of 1000. “In regard to the APR it’s day to day,” Peterson said. “I’ve heard rumors we may hear something this week or this month. I just put it all in the hands of our athletic director Jimmy Bass. I’m hoping they’ll look at what we did this year and the time that we’ve been here, but they (the NCAA) may go back to 2007 and look at that. No matter what happens I am so ready to get it behind us and move forward from here. It’s unfortunate if it does happen, but I can tell you from here on we’ll do a much better job on the academic side.”

Check out our story tonight on WWAY’s 11pm news with Buzz Peterson around 11:20 p.m.
