New search launched for missing Fort Bragg soldier

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — Volunteers are mounting another search for a Fort Bragg soldier missing for two months.

Teams are meeting in Fayetteville on Saturday to search for Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux. The 23-year-old was last seen April 14 at a bar where she had gone the night before to sing karaoke.

Police believe Bordeaux left the bar with a registered sex offender whom she met there the week before. The man says he dropped her off at the apartment complex where she lived with her husband, who was away visiting family.

The man said he had nothing to do with Bordeaux’s disappearance.

Volunteers have met regularly to scour various areas. Police have set up a special hotline for tips, and an $8,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Bordeaux’s return.

Blueberries bring bunches to Burgaw

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Blueberries are the fruit of summertime and the inspiration behind one of the biggest festivals in southeastern North Carolina.

Tens of thousands of folks came from all over the place to celebrate the Ninth Annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival. Families and fruit take over the traditional southern square in downtown Burgaw. The festival promotes the local economy, and blueberries are bought by the bushel.

“You can’t just go anywhere and get blueberries,” festival volunteer Greg Garriott said. “They only grow in certain climates, certain areas. There are a lot of local growers here, and it’s a chance to support the local economy and really enjoy something that a lot of people in The South love to eat.”

Besides the sweet treats, lots of folks come out to get a glimpse of antique cars as well.
