Democrat Anderson campaigns to represent Wilmington, Pender in Congress

Monday, July 30th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Much of Wilmington and Pender County find themselves in a new congressional district this year. Today, one of the candidates for the 3rd District seat in the US House hit the streets of the Port City today.

Democrat Erik Anderson might be from Greenville, but he says the needs of the newly redistricted Wilmington will be met if he is elected.

Anderson served in the Marine Corps for five years. He also points to his experience in the private sector as part of his diverse background.

Anderson believes incumbent Rep. Walter Jones (R) is overlooking military veterans in our community and that more can be done for them.

Another big sticking point to the Anderson campaign is to try and bring more jobs to eastern North Carolina. It’s something he says Jones has not done.

“I like to say that I’m running against a ghost, and I’m OK with saying that,” Anderson said. “The death of his father 20 years ago is the main reason why people still vote for him. He’s running on name recognition. I’m not that person. I will actually help serve the people of eastern North Carolina.”

Anderson says change has to happen if voters want different results.

Anderson is traveling through the 22-county district to campaign. He says, unlike his counterpart, he is funding everything out of his own pocket.
