Man charged with shooting in Clarkton

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Bladen County man is in jail after a shooting last night in Clarkton.

Sheriff Prentis Benston told WWAY a call came in to 911 at 6:22 p.m. Deputies went to a house in Clarkton, where they found a 51-year-old black man who had been shot in the head.

The victim was air lifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
His identity has not yet been released, but the Sheriff’s Office says the man was in critical condition this morning.

Deputies arrested Jesse Earl Simpson, 49, for the shooting. He is in the Bladen County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His first appearance was scheduled for today.

Pedestrian hit and killed walking down Highway 17

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A pedestrian was hit and killed walking down Highway 17 in Hampstead Monday night.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. The man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

His identity is not known at this time. Highway Patrol says they will notify the family before releasing any details to the public.

Lumberton man charged with stabbing brother

LUMBERTON, NC (AP) – A Lumberton man has been arrested in the stabbing death of his brother.

The Robesonian of Lumberton reported that 54-year-old Ira Frederick Locklear is charged with first-degree murder.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Vick Locklear was stabbed Monday morning.

Capt. Anthony Thompson says the brothers lived next door to each other. Thompson says investigators have not determined a motive.

It was not clear if Locklear has an attorney.
