Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A woman has been convicted of hitting two nurses in Mecklenburg County with her car, killing one of the victims.

Leah Walton was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Monday. A Mecklenburg County jury will consider a sentence Tuesday. Walton faces more than four years in prison.

Susan Karabulut was killed and Lisa Mcle was hurt when they were struck on a sidewalk on Aug. 22, 2010.

Prosecutor Gabrielle Macon says Walton was under the influence of a prescription drug for which she did not have a prescription.

Defense attorneys contend Walton was looking for a cigarette when she swerved and hit the women.

Rock star’s album benefits Military

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Rock Musician John Parr…you may know him best from his hits in the ’80’s, but he’s back on the scene today as he promotes a new album in support of those fighting for freedom.

Parr’s own father was in the Royal Navy, so he knows the struggles that come with being a military family.

His new album, The Mission, outlines those stories through the eyes of children, spouses and the ones on the front lines. Proceeds from the emotional songs benefit the USO, Military Families and USA Cares.

According to Parr, "It is about raising awareness and funds for Military men and women as they make the difficult transition back into ordinary life."

He’ll be signing album covers at the Wal-Mart off Market Street today from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Watch his live interview with Good Morning Carolina anchor Ashley Jacobs and hear him sing.
