NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police and New Hanover County dispatch received multiple calls Monday afternoon about possible funnel clouds across the area.
A strong storm cell formed over Wilmington at about 4:00 p.m. Calls of funnel clouds started coming in around 4:15 p.m., and UNCW sounded the sirens and issued a tornado warning shortly after.
There are no reports of tornadic touchdowns, and the National Weather Service has not confirmed any tornadic activity. Remember, a funnel cloud is not a tornado unless it touches the ground. There are no damage reports at this time.
The cell that spawned the suspicious clouds moved offshore as of about 5:15 p.m.
We continue to monitor the cell and will keep you updated. If you have any pictures, please send them to email@example.com
