Isaac continues to dump rain across Louisiana, Mississippi

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)-Isaac continues to push through Louisiana, dumping heavy rain across several states.

The center of Isaac stays far away from our viewing area, but the flow pattern around the edge of Isaac will still pull moisture into North Carolina through Wednesday night. A slow-moving cold front will tap into this moisture to produce a few showers/storms.

An area of high pressure will keep us protected from the "leftovers" of Isaac this weekend. Expect more sunshine, hotter temperatures, and only a slight chance of "summertime" thunderstorms.

Tropical Storm Isaac moving over Louisiana on Katrina anniversary; More rain here today

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)-Hurricane Isaac is still pushing ashore, moving very slowly over southeastern Louisiana. The storm packs gusty winds, but torrential flooding rain and storm surge will be the biggest effects on the Gulf Coast. (Today marks the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall)

The center of Isaac stays far away from our viewing area, but the flow pattern around the edge of Isaac will still pull moisture into North Carolina today. An approaching cold front will tap into this moisture-rich environment and produce heavy showers/thunderstorms across southeastern NC through early Thursday. Localized flooding problems may occur, especially in areas prone to standing water. Dry air moves in Thursday afternoon!

Please keep in mind that rising water is very dangerous. Do not attempt to cross any roadway with standing water- you don’t know the condition of the road underneath.

You can always see up-to-the-minute forecasts from the StormTrack 3 Weather Team at Hurricanes 101, and catch a full Tropical Video Update

ONLY ON 3: New Hanover Co. Commissioner Jason Thompson sets record straight on ballpark talks

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Upset with many inaccuracies in another media report, New Hanover County Commissioner Jason Thompson will join us today on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5:30 p.m. to talk about his perspectives on baseball in Wilmington.

Yesterday we were the first to uncover and report that Ripken Design, an arm of Ripken Baseball, had casually mentioned to New Hanover County that it would be interested in building a baseball stadium here, but it would build it with private money, instead of relying on a tax-payer funded stadium, which the City of Wilmington is pursuing now.

Join us at 5:30 p.m. to learn more.
