WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)-Hurricane Isaac will make landfall along the Louisiana coast late tonight, most likely as a Category 1 storm. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and storm surge will affect the Gulf Coast.
The center of Isaac will stay far away from our viewing area, but the flow pattern around the edge of Isaac is pulling moisture into North Carolina. An approaching cold front will tap into this moisture-rich environment and produce heavy showers/thunderstorms across southeastern NC through Thursday. Localized flooding problems may occur, especially in areas prone to standing water. A Flood Watch remains in effect for many of our local counties.
Please keep in mind that rising water is very dangerous. Do not attempt to cross any roadway with standing water- you don’t know the condition of the road underneath.
