Dalton campaign for NC governor holds town-halls

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — The Democrat running for governor of North Carolina is holding town-hall-style meetings as the political world watches the Republican national convention get rolling.

Walter Dalton is speaking with people about jobs and education at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

About two dozen people attended a similar Dalton event Monday at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington.

GOP gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory is skipping this week’s Republican convention in Tampa. His campaign said previously McCrory had too many commitments in the state to attend.

Louisiana and Mississippi brace for Isaac; Indirect heavy rain likely in North Carolina

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Isaac will make landfall near the coast of Mississippi or Louisiana, likely as a hurricane, overnight. The direct storm effects will remain far southwest of North Carolina.

However, the moisture feed behind Isaac is quite large, and will interact with a series of fronts/troughs here in the Carolinas over the next few days. The end result will be a greatly increased chance of heavy showers/thunderstorms through mid-week. Many areas already received heavy rain totals last week, so additional rain may lead to flooding problems. Drier air will return by the weekend.

3 NC Congress candidates to take convention podium

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Three North Carolina Republican candidates for the House of Representatives will get their chance to speak to a national audience after all.

Richard Hudson, Mark Meadows and David Rouzer are among the congressional candidates slated to take the podium Tuesday at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Their opportunities to speak looked unclear as the storm Isaac neared the Florida coast, forcing GOP officials to scrap Monday’s opening day and condense four days of the convention into three. Still, the North Carolina speeches will air while convention telecasts are relegated to cable TV.

Rouzer, Meadows and Hudson are all challenging Democratic incumbents this November. Their chances at victory may be improved after last year’s redistricting. Democrats currently have a 7-6 advantage in North Carolina’s U.S. House delegation.
