Isaac impacting south FL, headed for Gulf states

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Issac will continue to impact southern Florida through Sunday night. From there, the storm’s track has shifted slightly to the west, and it will likley approach Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama by Wednesday. The official track suggests Isaac could strengthen to a Category 2 storm before making landfall. Once the system moves inland over the Gulf states, weakening is expected.

We don’t expect any storm effects locally this weekend. The "left-over" rain from Isaac will likely head toward the Carolinas by the middle-to-end of next week.

Parts of southeastern NC have already experienced high rain totals from an unrelated system over the past few days. Any additional rain from Isaac could lead to flooding problems. There will also be a slight chance of isolated tornadoes in North Carolina by mid-week.

Volunteers pick up tickets to see President Obama at DNC

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The race for the White House is ramping up as the Republican National Convention kicks off Monday, and the Democratic National Convention is set for the following week right here in the Tar Heel State.

Saturday, supporters of President Obama who volunteered with the campaign picked up credentials to see the President officially accept the Democratic nomination. President Obama is set to deliver his acceptance speech at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte Thursday, September 6 during the DNC.

“I think President Obama is a president for all Americans. But as far as the convention goes, just being there,” Jimmy Gaylor said after picking up his credentials at the Obama campaign’s Wilmington field office. “I’ve watched them on TV all my life. It just seems like it’s the most exciting thing to be able to participate in the Democratic process.”

Remember, WWAY is the place to get complete coverage of both the Republican and Democratic conventions. We’ll have coverage of the RNC all this week on WWAY and ABC. Then, WWAY’s Kevin Wuzzardo and Cacky Catlett will be in Charlotte for the DNC, bringing you live, local coverage.
