Jury selection starts for 2008 murder in Brunswick County

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Jury selection began today in the trial of a man accused of killing a Shallotte real estate agent more than four years ago.

Craig bryant is charged with killing Adam Bradshaw, 34. Investigators say Bryant and Lora Moultrie killed Bradshaw in April 2008 over a real estate deal.

Moultrie pleaded guilty to the crime last year.

Man charged in connection with synthetic drug overdose death

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman, who apparently overdosed on a synthetic drug last month. Jeremy Martin Leutgens is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Detectives say Leutgens admitted supplying and consuming the synthetic drug 25-I with Stephanie Chappell Hobson, 25, who later died.

Deputies arrested Leutgens Friday. He is in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under $500,000 secure bond.

FIRST ON 3: Former BSL chief Ballree, son indicted on gun charges

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County Grand Jury has indicted former Boiling Spring Lakes Emmett Ballree and his son.

A spokeswoman for the NC Attorney General’s Office says Michael Ballree faces one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Emmett Ballree faces one felony count of aiding and abetting.

According to the indictment, back in September, Michael Ballree had a Heckler-Koch UMP .45 caliber automatic weapon. The indictment says Ballree was convicted of felony possession of a stolen firearm in Wayne County in 2004.

The indictment says Emmett Ballree aided and abetted his son to possess the gun last fall despite knowing that Michael had the conviction on his record.

When reached by phone this afternoon, Emmett Ballree said he had nothing to say about the indictment. A phone number for Michael Ballree could not immediately be found.
