Community Action loses federal appeal to retain Head Start

City of Lumberton’s website hacked

LUMBERTON, NC (AP) — The city of Lumberton’s website has been hacked for more than two hours by someone who said he was a Turkish Muslim.

Lumberton information management director Travis Branch says someone embedded a message on the city’s website around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Branch says he was able to remove it about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Branch told The Fayetteville Observer that his department is investigating how the message was placed on the site.

Branch says there has been on breach of the safety of personal information. He says there does not appear to have been a virus attached to the message.

A unique marketing stunt has sparked numerous 911 calls. The “girl” on top of a Cape Fear Bedding truck is actually a mannequin. People called 911 believing the girl may actually be suicidal.

One shot overnight at Wilmington Sportsmen’s Club

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating an early morning shooting at a Wilmington nightclub.

New Hanover County dispatch says one person was shot outside of the Wilmington Sportsmen’s Club at 1111 Castle Street.

It happened around 2 a.m.

The victim was transported to the hospital. No word yet on the victim’s condition.

A suspect was detained, and then later released.
