2 charged in break-in at NC home of dead toddler

Friday, September 21st, 2012

FAITH, NC (AP) — Investigators in Rowan County have arrested two people in connection with a break-in at the home of a family attending the funeral of a 1-year-old toddler who drowned.

The sheriff’s office said 26-year-old Bobby Milam and 22-year-old Jessica Williams are jailed under $50,000 bond apiece. They’re charged with felony counts of breaking and entering, larceny and obtaining property. The two were arrested Friday. It’s not known if they have attorneys.

Officials said the couple lives next door to the family of Parker Munn, who drowned Sept. 11 after apparently falling into another neighbor’s decorative pond.

Authorities say more than $4,000 in property was taken from the home while Parker’s parents attended the funeral, and that the toddler’s personal items were found burned in the back yard of the suspects’ home.

Wilmington wins $175k in lottery

Friday, September 21st, 2012

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Bob Jones, a retired manufacturing worker from Greensboro, plans to use some of the $175,707 prize he won playing Carolina Cash 5 to take a vacation.

Jones beat odds of 1 in 575,757 when he matched all five numbers in the Sept. 16 drawing, winning him the jackpot. He was at home when he learned of his big win.

“I get up early every day and check my email and my lottery numbers,” Jones said. “I saw the numbers on the screen and had to check them again. You never think it will happen to you. This feels great.”

Jones plans to use another portion of his winnings, worth $119,481 after taxes were withheld, to pay bills. He purchased his winning ticket at the Gas Center on North College Road in Wilmington.

“Keep playing because you just might win,” Jones said about the Carolina Cash 5 game. “Today it’s me, but tomorrow it will be someone else.”
